The Scaldis was built in 1903 by van den Andel in Papendrecht under the name Goede verwachting. It is a Zealand pavilion ship, a ship type that was used by the Zealand sailors for the transport of potatoes and beetroot. After a fruitful life as a transport sailing ship and later as a motorised transport ship, the ship was brought back under sail in the early 70s. Since 1978, she has been sailing from Enkhuizen as a passenger sail ship. In later years the ship underwent necessary adaptations without interfering with the original line of the ship, a cuddy was added as well as a passenger space. Only the pavilion maintained its more or less original state. In January 2002 the current owner, Jaap Klok, bought the ship and does again what the ship was built for : sailing in Zealand waters. The ship is anchored in the port of Zierikzee which gives you the perfect opportunity to discover this great little town. And all this from the authentic environment of a sail ship! For extra payment (and if the weather and the season permit) you can sail. Please contact the captain directly ! Enjoy this special holiday on board of the Scaldis. Classification: Basement: 1 livingroom (TV, stereo), 1 open plan kitchen (oven), 6x cabin (bunk bed, washbasin), 1 bathroom (shower), 1 WC. General: heating (central). |
